FBR NOTICE REPLY & REPRESENTATION

FBR Notice Reply in Pakistan

Received a notice from FBR? Don’t ignore it, and don’t reply in a hurry. Whether it is a notice under Section 114(4) to file a return, a show-cause under Section 122(9) or a sales tax notice, whatever you submit becomes part of your case record. We read the notice, check your IRIS record, draft a reply in the proper format with supporting documents, and represent you before the officer if it goes further.

OUR SERVICE

What's Included in Our Notice Reply Service

Send us a photo or PDF of the notice. We tell you what it means, which deadline applies and what the reply needs to contain — then we handle it from draft to submission.

Notice Review & Deadline Check

We identify the section the notice is issued under, the tax year involved and the compliance date, so nothing is missed.

IRIS Record Check

We review your returns, wealth statements and withholding data on IRIS to find the mismatch the officer is relying on.

Reply Drafting

A written reply in proper legal format that answers each point raised, with references to the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 or the Sales Tax Act 1990.

Supporting Documents

Bank statements, withholding certificates, agreements and reconciliations compiled into an annexed set that backs up the reply.

Online Submission & Tracking

The reply is uploaded on IRIS against the notice, and we track the case until it is closed or an order is passed.

Hearings & Appeals

If the matter goes further, we appear before the officer and file appeals before the Commissioner (Appeals) and the Appellate Tribunal.

Which Notices We Handle

Section 114(4) — Notice to File

FBR has asked you to file a return for a past tax year you were required to file.

Section 122(9) — Show Cause

The officer proposes to amend your assessment by adding income or disallowing expenses. This reply decides the outcome.

Section 176 — Information Request

FBR wants details of bank deposits, property purchases, vehicles or foreign remittances.

Section 177 — Audit Selection

Your case has been selected for audit and the officer wants books, records and explanations.

Sales Tax & Withholding Notices

Notices under the Sales Tax Act 1990, or withholding tax monitoring under Sections 161 and 205.

Why Notice Replies Go Wrong

Most of the adverse orders we see at the appeal stage were not lost on the law. They were lost on the reply — or on the absence of one. The first mistake is missing the date. Every notice carries a compliance date, and if nothing is on record by then, the officer can pass an order on the information already available. Reversing that order through appeal takes months and usually costs more than the original reply would have. The second is replying in general terms. A line saying “my income is from salary and all tax has been deducted” does not answer a notice that lists specific bank credits. Each point in the notice needs its own answer, backed by a document. The third is volunteering information nobody asked for. A reply is a legal document. Anything written in it can be quoted in the order, so it should answer what was asked, completely, and stop there. We prepare every reply as if an appellate forum may read it later, because sometimes one does. If an order is passed against you, we take it to the Commissioner (Appeals) within the time allowed under Section 127. Need your return in order before replying? See our Income Tax Return Filing service.

How We Handle Your Notice

Step 1: Share the Notice

Send the notice on WhatsApp or email, with your IRIS login if you have one. We confirm the deadline the same day.

Step 2: Review & Strategy

We check your IRIS record, identify exactly what the officer is questioning and agree the line of reply with you.

Step 3: Draft & Documents

We draft the reply, collect the supporting documents and share the final version for your approval.

Step 4: Submission & Follow-up

The reply is filed on IRIS and we follow the case through hearings and, where needed, appeal.

Frequently Asked Questions

The officer can proceed on the information available and pass an order that adds income, creates a tax demand and imposes penalties. Undoing such an order requires an appeal, so replying on time is far cheaper.

The compliance date is written on the notice itself and varies by notice type. If the time is too short, an adjournment can be requested in writing, with reasons, before the date passes.

There is no single prescribed format. A proper reply identifies the notice, the tax year and the section, answers each point separately, refers to the documents attached and is filed through IRIS. A template copied from the internet rarely fits the facts of a particular notice.

Yes, a taxpayer can reply directly. The risk is in what gets written: an incomplete or careless reply can be used against you in the order. For anything beyond a simple notice to file a return, professional drafting is worth it.

You can appeal to the Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) under Section 127, generally within 30 days of receiving the order. A further appeal lies to the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue.

It depends on the notice type, the tax years involved and the volume of documents. Send us the notice and we will give you a fixed quote before any work starts.
